I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist with a Masters in Mindfulness Core Process Psychotherapy from the Karuna Institute, in affiliation with Middlesex University.
With everyone I work with, I will acknowledge what you are seeking help with and approach this in a way that helps to reveal what is required for change to occur. This is supported by my approach of working in-the-moment with awareness of the body, emotional and mental experience. At each step in this process I pay attention to what is happening in the present and support you to do the same - as it is in the now that we have the capacity for meaningful growth, learning and change.
I believe that much of our wounding happens in relationship and therefore our healing must happen in relationship also. Too often we are not met with the acceptance, compassion and understanding we require at the deepest levels of ourselves and the challenges we meet in life can seem overwhelming and unchangeable. I have come to trust that even the toughest mental and emotional distress can, with the right support, be a transformative and even rewarding experience.
As a therapist I work with adults of all different genders, ages and backgrounds. I have supported many people to work through and resolve difficulties or to develop greater awareness. This has included people seeking help with: personal development, relationship concerns, bereavement, anxiety, stress, trauma, PTSD and CPTSD, anger concerns, lack of life direction and spiritual crisis - to name a few. You are welcome to ask me about anything you are seeking help with and I will always be honest with you about the support I can offer.
I have worked for many years in various jobs that have all been about helping, enabling and empowering people. Before training as a psychotherapist I had a career in the care sector working closely with children and young adults with additional needs, in particular those affected by communication impairments. I also have experience of supporting people in the mental health sector. In addition to running my own psychotherapy private practice for many years, I have worked in a university counselling service providing therapeutic support to students.
I previously studied photography and filmmaking, while never perusing this as a career I still enjoy this as a hobby. I love being outdoors and in nature and take what opportunities I can to appreciate all the natural beauty that Scotland has to offer.
