Murray Sharp ~ Glasgow Therapist ~ 0759575825
Working 'in-the-moment', with awareness of the body, emotional and mental experience, I listen attentively to what is happening in the present and support you to do the same - as it is in the now that we have the capacity for effective insight, growth and change.
My counselling and psychotherapy practice is dedicated to helping you bring awareness to your difficulties whilst building the inner capacity to support yourself in any situation.
I work mindfully and heartfully to meet you where you are at now and support you with whatever difficulty you are experiencing in your life. My experience of counselling, psychotherapy, stress-management and focused relaxation work allows me to use a variety of skills within my work.
I live in Glasgow with my wife and daughter. I have been a practicing counsellor since 2017. Previously I worked as a support worker caring for disabled children and young people.
As a counsellor I am committed to providing counselling, psychotherapy and stress management/focussed relaxation sessions in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. You can find out more about me and the work that I do with people using the link below.
I work in Cathcart in the southside of Glasgow. There is free on-street parking available. The 4, 4A and 6 buses stop nearby on Clarkston Rd and Muirend and Cathcart train stations are a short walk.
I provide in-person appointments in a confidential, comfortable space.
Predominantly I offer in-person appointments, but I am also able to offer online sessions on occasion when meeting face-to-face is not possible.
I work with adult individuals or couples of all ages, cultures and backgrounds. I provide counselling and psychotherapy sessions that are tailored to you.
I am experienced helping people who have been struggling with anxiety, relationships, stress, bereavement, depression, panic attacks, trauma (including PTSD and CPTSD), abuse, and more. If you are having a difficulty not mentioned here please feel welcome to ask me about it - I will always be honest and upfront with you about the help I can and cannot offer.
Depending on what you are seeking, sessions can involve a process of supporting you to orient and bring clarity to any concerns or difficulties you are experiencing or help to identify and address the obstacles to achieving a specific goal. Where helpful I can make suggestions depending on what difficulties you are experiencing so you can decide what is the right approach for you. At every stage you will be given choice about how we proceed.
My counselling training is broad based. I have a Masters in Mindfulness Core Process psychotherapy. This was a four year training in the original Mindfulness approach to psychotherapy in the UK. I have also studied a holistic approach that incorporates many well-known forms of counselling (including skills from CBT and person-centered). This integrative approach allows me to utilise a wide range of practices for a more rounded and effective therapy tailored to you.
Additionally, I have trained in Stress Management and am able to facilitate focused relaxation exercises and awareness building exercises to help with stress and the development of greater inner resilience and confidence. These can be the focus of sessions or incorporated into ongoing counselling work if appropriate.
I am an accredited member of UKCP and abide by their code of ethics for professional practice.
Broadly counselling tends to be shorter term work (1-6 sessions) that focuses on a specific issue and psychotherapy is longer term work (6 sessions +) that seeks to address the deeper underlying causes behind the difficulties we experience. Another difference is that psychotherapy trainings tend to be longer and more in-depth (3-5 years) than most counselling trainings (1-3 years). However, most commonly the words counsellor, psychotherapist and therapist are regularly used to mean the same and I therefore use these terms interchangeably depending on what you prefer or are familiar with. Whatever your reason for seeking an appointment and the type of work you choose - whether one session or many - I work with everyone with the same approach of working towards a greater understanding of your concerns and responding to this with respect and compassion and by giving you choice.
I am a counsellor in Glasgow working in Cathcart. Predominantly I offer in-person appointments, but I am also able to offer online sessions on occasion when meeting face-to-face is not possible.
All appointments are full 60 minuets.
Generally I suggest that appointments are weekly or fortnightly according to your preference. Any longer than this and it can be more difficult to maintain momentum and progression from session to session. However, I appreciate there will be times when this may not be possible and a longer break between sessions is unavoidable.
You are under no obligation to book more than one appointment at a time, neither do I expect you to commit to a certain number of sessions. Taking it one session at a time allows you to decide what is right for you without the pressure of future commitment.
I currently have appointments available. Please contact me to book or if you have any questions.
